About & Governance Framework
Promoting absolute Shariah clarity, algorithmic rigor, and institutional compliance standards for Muslim investors in Web3 markets.
🛡️ Verified Shariah Compliance Certification
Audited under Official AAOIFI Shariah Standard No. 21 & No. 30 Governance Protocols.
Our Purpose
The Halal Crypto Index and the HALAL500 Global Halal Crypto Index directory were founded to bridge the critical gap between complex, fast-evolving blockchain innovations and classical Islamic commercial jurisprudence (Fiqh al-Muamalat).
With thousands of speculative tokens launching monthly, retail Muslim investors often struggle to distinguish legitimate decentralized utility from hidden interest (Riba), excessive ambiguity (Gharar), or outright gambling mechanics (Maisir).
5-Second Shariah Crypto Cheat-Sheet
A quick-reference guide summarizing what makes a crypto instrument permissible (Halal) or prohibited (Haram) under Islamic financial law:
| Crypto Instrument | Status | Core Shariah Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Spot Market Buying | HALAL | Immediate ownership transfer (Qabd) with full spot token asset delivery. |
| Native PoS Staking | HALAL | Validator service rewards (Ujrah) for securing blockchain compute consensus. |
| TRX Energy Rental | HALAL | Leasing of bandwidth utility under legitimate Ijarah rental principles. |
| Crypto Futures & Margin | HARAM | Lacks physical ownership (Qabd), involves leverage interest and speculates on prices (Gharar). |
| DeFi Interest Lending (Aave, etc.) | HARAM | Direct generation of yield from interest on cash loans (Riba al-Nasi'ah). |
| Synthetic Yield Dollars (USDe) | HARAM | Derived from continuous short-perpetual futures arbitrage without spot backing. |
Peer-Reviewed Governance & External Audit
To eliminate individual bias and ensure absolute objectivity, our token screening data is subjected to quarterly independent audits by a secondary Shariah Review Board:
Islamic Capital Markets Consultant, Kuala Lumpur. Focuses on cross-chain protocol liquidity validation.
AAOIFI Audit Specialist, Riyadh. Inspects automated grid bot code and spot exchange custody mechanisms.
The HALAL500 Compliance Methodology
Every digital asset listed in the HALAL500 directory undergoes a mandatory 4-tier quantitative and qualitative filter prior to classification as Halal or Haram.
Exclusion of protocols tied to non-permissible activities: interest-based lending, casino gaming, adult entertainment, weapons, or speculative ponzinomics.
In accordance with AAOIFI Shariah Standard No. 21, total interest-bearing debt must not exceed 30% of total market cap, and non-permissible income must not exceed 5% of total protocol revenue.
Verification that the token represents genuine digital property (Mal Mutaqawwim) with real computational, governance, or network transactional utility.
Only immediate Spot market transactions allowing full wallet possession are deemed permissible. Margin, Perpetuals, and CFDs are strictly Haram.
